Montessori Preschool in Orchard

Brainy Child Montessori has nurtured young minds on Orchard Road since February 2007, using the Montessori method in a nurturing, child-centric environment. Our programmes are designed for children 18 months to 7 years, with small classes so every child gets the attention they need — and a trilingual curriculum in English, Mandarin and Japanese.

Why parents choose us

The Brainy Child Difference

Every child is a unique individual with varying needs. These are the things we hold to, so your child is met exactly where they are.

Proven Montessori teaching method

Lessons follow the Montessori method — the three-period lesson, a carefully prepared environment and materials with built-in control of error, so your child can check their own work.

Small classes, more attention

Published teacher-to-student ratios of 1:6 in Playgroup, 1:8 in Nursery and 1:10 in Kindergarten. Teaching is done according to each individual child’s level.

Hands-on learning

Children touch, manipulate and explore specially designed materials that make ideas visible and tangible — from sandpaper letters to the golden bead decimal system.

Trilingual curriculum

English Phonics, Mandarin and Japanese under one roof, taught by native Mandarin and native Japanese teachers. Non-Chinese students are welcome to learn Mandarin too.

Flexible school hours

Choose 2, 3 or 5 days a week, and a morning session that fits your family’s routine rather than the other way round.

Experienced teachers

Our team holds International Diplomas in Montessori Education (MMI London) and Early Childhood Education qualifications, several with 17 to 18 years of teaching experience.

The pathway

Playgroup to Kindergarten, all in one place

Your child can stay with the same familiar teachers and the same method from their very first drop-off right through to Primary 1.

Montessori Playgroup

A drop-off class covering the three languages, Math, Sensorial and Practical Life skills, plus storytelling, music & movement and fine motor activities.

  • Ratio 1:6
  • 8.30–10.30am or 10.30am–12.30pm
  • 2, 3 or 5 days a week
Step 2 · 3 – 4 years

Montessori Nursery

A small drop-off class covering English Phonics, Math, Sensorial, Cultural Studies and Practical Life — supporting cognitive, social, emotional and physical development.

  • Ratio 1:8
  • 9.30 – 11am
  • Taught at each child’s own level
Step 3 · 5 & 6 years

Montessori Kindergarten

Prepares your child for Primary 1 and beyond, building confidence, independence and social-emotional skills alongside Phonics, Math, Sensorial and Cultural subjects.

  • Ratio 1:10
  • 9.30–11am (5yo) · 11am–12.30pm (6yo)
  • Hanyu pinyin introduced for P1

Three languages, taught by native teachers

Young children absorb language readily, and our curriculum is built around that window.

  • English Phonics — a multi-sensory Pink, Blue and Green scheme progression, from sandpaper letters to independent reading.
  • Mandarin — taught by native teachers from Playgroup to Kindergarten, covering speaking, reading and writing.
  • Japanese — introduced as a third language by a native Japanese teacher, with weekday classes on Mondays and Wednesdays.

A gentle, well-prepared run-up to Primary 1

By Kindergarten, academic subjects like English Phonics and Math are taught individually, based on your child’s own level — because children of the same age progress at a different pace.

  • Confidence, independence and interactive skills built alongside academics.
  • Practical Life, Sensorial and Cultural subjects (science, history, geography).
  • Weekend Phonics and Math available if weekday classes don’t suit.

Our team

Teachers who know your child by name

With classes this small, the teacher in front of your child has the time to notice what they need — and the training to do something about it.
